Braghelli field has been designated by the township as a place where electric R/C aircraft can be flown. However, the field is not exclusively for the use of R/C flying. Dog walking, hiking, kite flying and model rocketry are among other activities conducted at the field. R/C flyers have no more right to the use of the field than any of these other activities. Therefore, the township has established some rules for flyers. With these rules in mind, and common sense, common courtesy and civility there is no reason why one activity must stand aside for another.
For those new to the hobby, many flyers are willing and able to help you decide on your first plane. They are also able to teach you the basics to fly and to take off and land successfully. Some will take off your plane for you and get it up in the sky so you can practice flying without have to learn to take off first. If you choose they can then also land the plane for you. They will stand beside you while you attempt your first flight and be ready to take control if a crash is likely. Crashes are inevitable and they will also be able to help you to repair your model and get it back in the air in minutes in many cases.
The intent is to promote the hobby without the cost, hassle and politics involved in joining a club. We are not Anti-club, however, and many of the flyers who come here do indeed belong to several of the local RC clubs. We believe it is much easier to get into the hobby at a place where rules are a little more relaxed due to there being less risk involved with electric flight as opposed to other means of R/C propulsion which can be very hazardous. Because clubs allow flying of all types of R/C planes they must be much more cautious. But they also have other advantages and you may well want to join a club as your interest in the hobby progresses.
So come join us at the field. If it’s not raining and not too windy someone is likely to be flying. Early morning (8:00 – 11:00) and evenings (6:00-dark) are the most active times although you may find someone there at any time after 8:00 and before dark. Generally winds above 8-10 MPH will put a halt to most of the flying. (Electric R/C planes are very light).
Hope to see you soon.
